Meta commentary
Another fixed point candidate in Ape Lore is the “mutation story”. The lore that can be extracted from BAYC is that there were serums that apes had to drink to spawn a mutant (one per ape). Additionally there were 10k mutants released into the wild.
Each ape that drank the serum has a story. Each mutant has a story. #MutantsAreApesToo
Story Mode: From Kona’s perspective
It comes to me in a dream, sometimes in a daze. When I’m in that liminal space between asleep and awake, that transitory state. But the scene is always the same.
I’m bound and helpless. It’s the moment before he escapes. Not long after he’s born, he learns to run before he can walk. We share nothing more than a moment, a look. Those eyes, so much like mine. Haunting. And then swiftly out into the starry night. I look down to see deus ex machina, the hand of god itself. I’ve always had a little bit of faith, never more than now. “Who can an ape rely on? None more than a hound” Two rockets left to go, the best saved for last. Time for a quick exit and turn this lab to ash. No more mutants will be born here, but this is one of many certainly. Spent a moment pondering about all those other mutants, scattered into eternity. As I drift back to consciousness with the light of the world peering through my eyelids. Trying to recall what else I saw growing there. Needs further investigation.
